Lollipop/Kids

Creators’ Reflections

“I curated this video; “Lollipop”, as featured in “Stand by Me”, was the first song+scene that came to mind when I thought of doing something for this project. I opted to start with the diegetic version of the song, which featured, beyond some background noises, a 50s radio host introducing the song; then morph into non-diegetic once the first clip had ended. That was the extent of my contribution, as beyond that first clip, all other clips were provided by the other, randomly-assigned contributors. Very pleased with the final result – a fairly straightforward supercut with a simple keyword, though some of the participants did approach it in more creative ways.” (Ariel Avissar)

“Because our supercut begins with the adventuring boys in STAND BY ME walking in a line, it called to mind similar visual compositions from the animated film PETER PAN and the jaunty, strutting snacks from the “Let’s all go to the lobby” intermission short. I was also interested in including something fairly disparate from these examples. The organizing keyword “kids” reminded me of Larry Clark’s challenging 1995 film, KIDS. Although it’s still a work-in-progress, it’s interesting how this montage features a range of representations of teenage adolescence.” (Matthew Payne)
