Creators’ Reflections

“The song “Gloria” holds the record for the most translations ever. Originally in Italian, it has been translated into Spanish, French, Czech, English, German, and Swedish. The soundtrack of my video essay will alternate between these languages. I will assemble the complete music track, incorporating clips from various versions of the song. Given my interest in accented (multilingual) voiceover, I believe it will be a perfect choice for my contribution to your project.

My first visual clip will feature the ending sequence of the film “Gloria,” a Chilean production directed by Sebastián Lelio. I will then transition to its Hollywood remake, “Gloria Bell,” also directed by Lelio. Subsequently, I will invite my collaborators to explore various other remakes. The keyword for this project will be “remake,” and I will request collaborators to use clips from both the original film and its remakes. The aim is to incorporate a diverse selection of films from various countries. For the prompt, I intend to use “Dreaming.” Both dreaming and film remakes involve a reinterpretation or reimagining of existing material. Dreams often involve the mind’s creative reconstruction of experiences, memories, and emotions, reshaping them into new scenarios or narratives. Similarly, film remakes involve filmmakers reinterpreting existing stories, characters, and themes, presenting them in a fresh perspective or adapting them to suit contemporary audiences.” (Barbara Zecchi)
